1. International Congress on Management of Healthcare and Welfare Units-ICOHEMA 2019

Τhe Program of Postgraduate Studies in science in Health and Welfare Units of the Department of Organisations Management, Marketing and Tourism and the Department of Nursing of the International Hellenic University are organising the 1st International Congress on Management of Healthcare & Welfare Units (ICOHEMA 2019), that will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, at the Porto Palace Hotel, between the 29th of November and the 1st of December 2019. The overall congress theme is “Managing Healthcare and Welfare Units in Austerity and Prosperity”.

Health care: A right or a Privilege? The question still remains unclear. When you make the argument that health care should be a right, it is crucial to distinguish the legal and the moral part of the right. In parallel, health care could be a privilege, because only people who are wealthy enough to pay for services have access to medical care. The previous contrast further highlighted due to the fact that the healthcare system underwent considerable restructuring and downsizing in the last decades due to the economic crisis. The effects on nursing staff and hospital functioning in various countries generally reported negative impacts.

In this context, the benefits that come across of the right management process of the Healthcare & Welfare Units is fundamental for skipping the obstacles bringing the health care down to a more manageable level. The “benefits management” as a structured approach for maximising good outcomes for an organisation as a result of change plays a crucial role.
