DAVET
Dear Colleagues,

I am very honored to invite you to the "APASL Single Topic Conference on Hepatotoxicity" to be held in Istanbul on 23 - 25 September 2022. The liver has an important role in the conversion of various chemicals in the body and in the purification of various chemicals from the body. The liver has a sensitivity to the toxicity of these chemicals. Some medicinal substances can damage the liver, even if the amount is in the appropriate range and dose. Other substances that cause liver damage include natural chemicals, herbal medicines, and substances used in the laboratory and industry. Substances used in industry, mushroom poisons and many drugs used in treatment can cause liver damage. There is an increased sensitivity of the liver to drugs and toxic substances in chronic liver disease and fatty liver. Reactivation with immunosuppressive drugs can also occur in viral hepatitis. We believe that this meeting, where treatment options and prevention of hepatotoxicity will be discussed in detail, will act as a catalyst in improving liver health and advancing hepatology studies and practices in the region.

With the Neolithic Age settlement unearthed by the excavations of Yenikapı Theodosius Harbor, it has been understood that the history of Istanbul stretches back 8500 years. Founded as the city of Byzantium by the Greeks in 700 BC, Istanbul became the capital of the Roman and Eastern Roman Empires under the name of Constantinople. After the Ottoman Empire conquered the city in 1453, the city served as the capital of the Ottoman Empire for about five centuries and began to be called "Istanbul" by the Turks.

Roman Period ruins such as the Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern and Çemberlitaş, the Galata Tower inherited by the Genoese, Hagia Sophia, which has stood as the most important monument in the world for approximately 1500 years, and Topkapı Palace, which has been used as the residence and administrative center of the Ottoman sultans for centuries, are among the Ottoman structures. More than 80 museums, including 9 Ottoman Palaces, the Blue Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar, where the trade tradition that has survived to the present day is kept alive; They are important monuments that define the culture and identity of the city.

Istanbul shines like a pearl on the Bosphorus with its historical and natural beauties, bridges connecting the continents of Asia and Europe, and underwater tunnels. Istanbul, which has been the capital of the Ottoman Empire for 500 years, has become the second favorite cuisine of the world after the Chinese cuisine, with more than 400 desserts and different tastes, including the distinguished food flavors of the Asian, European and African continents, in addition to its cultural richness.

I would like to express my great pleasure to host you in Istanbul with scientifically rich conference program and Traditional Ottoman-Turkish hospitality and present my greetings and respects.

Prof. İbrahim Halil BAHÇECİOĞLU, MD
President of Single Topic Conference Istanbul, 2022
