INVITATION
Dear Colleague,
I am delighted to bring to you the launch programme for BAUN annual conference and AGM 2019 in BAUN’s 24th year. This year it is in Liverpool, a city holding very special memories for me and I hope you will come along and share in this special event.
The theme this year is
“Cultivating Resilience – Thriving amidst adversity!”I cannot be the only nurse who sees too many plates spinning, balancing so many demands placed upon myself, and struggling to keep sense of all that is happening around me both personally and professionally. I wonder, how I care for others in my professional role when I deliver very little self-care?
Nothing would give me greater thrill, enjoyment and a huge sense of pride than seeing you all in Liverpool – listening to sessions, engaging in interactive sessions, networking with new and old colleagues, finding space and time to sit down - reflect and recharge whilst learning.
I hope the programme put together for BAUN Annual Conference 2019 is yet another amazing educational event. We always aim to have a range of high-quality speakers that will inspire, educate and challenge us all to learn. The success of the 2018 conference and the feedback from delegates has allowed us to provide a programme which will ensure an exciting, stimulating and educational development opportunity.
On Monday, our conference will open with an inspiring session from Lisa Rodrigues CBE, coach, author and mental health campaigner who will discuss challenges she faced as a nurse and NHS CEO. Lisa will be our keynote speaker and present the Eileen O’Hagan lecture and set the scene for our theme of “Cultivating Resilience – Thriving amidst adversity!”.
We are also thrilled to have Lee Jackson, author and motivational speaker who will present on Monday afternoon and help us all “Get Good at work!” He will also be holding a joint workshop on Sunday with our very own Jerome Marley on how to “Get good” at presenting and writing for publication.
As BAUN President and alongside the BAUN Trustees, we place a great emphasis on our joint sponsored (PCUK, TUF, Coloplast) BAUN award winners, plus new presenters and those nurses from around the country showcasing their work. This year we are highlighting these inspirational nurses on Monday 11th November. So please keep an eye out for the BAUN award nomination forms and look at nominating yourself, your colleagues or your whole team. These annual awards represent a huge sense of achievement and pride and are a fantastic recognition of achievement.
BAUN Question Time returns – what do you want to see discussed this year? Using #BAUN19 tweet me some questions or email me at [email protected] if you want to see a topic or question asked. Remember it is your conference – engage with me - I want you involved. Sue, current conference lead, and Tina, our deputy conference lead, have pulled on all their resilience and resources to bring you a conference that is truly engaging.
We will as always be welcoming our international urology nursing colleagues to BAUN conference and continue to promote links with worldwide urological nursing associations.
Monday evening provides the opportunity for everyone to recognise urology nurses’ achievements and celebrate at the BAUN Annual Awards Dinner, the event this year will take place at the home of Liverpool FC, the newly redesigned and amazing Anfield Stadium. I am a passionate reds supporter and I am personally delighted to be heading to Anfield to celebrate my first BAUN conference as President – a role I am personally very proud to hold. I urge you to seriously consider the awards nominations to put yourself forward and let us celebrate together, celebrate everything special about Urological nursing. Using the words of Heather Small – ‘What have you done today to make you feel proud’? Following a three-course meal, you will be entertained by Liverpudlian singer songwriter Marc Kenny (www.marckenny.co.uk check him out) and finally get the opportunity to dance the night away.
On Tuesday, we will again split into Benign and Oncology streams. I hope the 2 streams offer you an opportunity to focus back onto your clinical patient perspective, not only how we can support our patient’s resilience, but equally reflect upon building your own.
These are just a few of this year’s educational highlights, there will be a full 50+ industry exhibition for you to wander around. The full programme is available on the registration website and will be continually updated between now and November.
I look forward to welcoming you to Liverpool and meeting you, feel free to stop me and say hello!
