Middle East Congress on Politics and Society

The fourth Middle East Congress on Politics and Society organized by the Middle East Institute, Sakarya University will take place between October 10 and 12, 2018 in Sakarya. The congress aims to create a platform which will shape Middle East studies and bring in new ideas and perspectives by drawing respective scientists together. Significant developments have occurred in the Middle East during the two year-period since the Third Congress organized in 2016. It is our goal to look at historical, political and social developments of the region, which will be elaborated below, from different perspectives.

Throughout the human history, Middle East has always been a remarkable place due to the geographical area it contains, diversity of ethnic and religious structures, the civilization it has built up and the deep rooted history it has. Although there have been studies and researches approaching to all these aspects of the region from different perspectives, insufficiency of those and the need for further is obvious. It is clear now that the nation-states founded following the WWI have now become the cradle of political, cultural and social problems due to both foreign interventions and domestic rivalries even though a century passed since the war. Therefore the current situation inevitably requires an analysis of the historical legacy and the unique chaotic structure of the Middle East in every aspect.
