Symposium on Small Molecules in Plant Research-Chemistry and Biology Come Together

On behalf of the SPRM 2019 Scientific and Local Organising Committees, I would like to invite you warmly to the Symposium on Small Molecules in Plant Research: Chemistry and Biology Come Together, which will take place in Valencia, Spain, from 10 to 11 December 2019, under the patronage of the IBMCP (Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas).

The importance of small molecules is gaining momentum. Small molecules are present in numerous research fields, from the study of plant development to plant responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. They also give plants added value as colours, flavours and health properties. Therefore small molecules are either directly or indirectly responsible for many traits of interest for breeders and industry. This symposium aims to present breaking ground science in the field of small molecules to a diverse group of scientists, including chemists, biologists, breeders, industry and those involved in translational research. The talks will cover the latest advances in monitoring, assessing, screening and optimizing small molecules, their roles in plants and applications to improve agriculture and human health. The latest progress and strategies in metabolic engineering for high value small molecules will be presented as well. To this end, we will meet experts from different areas in plant sciences to present a series of case studies focused on the use and discovery of small molecules, which have opened new avenues for plant research.
